Is QHHT® About Past Lives? What Really Surfaces in a Session
Updated: 18 minutes ago
Many people first hear about QHHT® (Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique, by Dolores Cannon) through past life regression. It is often the reason they become curious. And it is also the source of two of the questions I'm asked most often: Is QHHT® really about past lives? and Will it conflict with my beliefs?
The short answer to both: QHHT® goes beyond past life regression, and it does not ask you to believe anything.
Do past lives come up in a QHHT® session?
Often, yes. Many clients experience vivid scenes and stories that feel as if they belong to another time and another life. Some are ordinary lives, some are extraordinary, and some don't look like a human biography at all.
But these stories are not the goal of a session. The purpose of QHHT® is present-life awakening and integration. The narratives that surface act as mirrors. They help you see the themes and patterns running through the life you are living now, so that you can understand yourself more clearly today.
Dolores Cannon built this understanding into the QHHT® process itself. At the end of a session, as the client is brought back to full awareness, the past lives explored are described as something “we only brought forward as a curiosity to learn from, to have information to help with the present lifetime.”
"Past life" was the language Dolores Cannon used to describe what she observed. It made sense within the understanding of her time, and it remains a useful label. But in my own practice, I have come to see these experiences in a slightly broader way.
Where do past life stories come from?
A metaphor I often use: accessing a "past life" is like running a search in a vast field of information. Some traditions call this field the Akashic Records; Jung spoke of the collective unconscious.
In this metaphor, your current state, meaning your focus, your questions and your energy at that moment, is the search query. The stories that come up are the results that hold the greatest relevance for what you need to understand now.
Dolores Cannon herself pointed in this direction. In Keepers of the Garden, she described how some so-called past lives are better understood as imprints, experiences drawn from a collective record, rather than as one soul's personal history.
This perspective explains something I observe regularly in my sessions:
Two different people can access very similar stories. If the stories were purely personal biography, this would be puzzling. If they are drawn from a shared field, it is natural.
One person can receive different stories about the same period over time. As their focus and state change, so do the results.
Sessions today often look less like a linear biography, and more like shared scenes, archetypal classrooms, or the same situation seen from different vantage points.
Are the stories literally true?
It's a natural question to ask. It's simply not one a session tries to settle.
My purpose is not to debate whether any single narrative is objectively true. It is to help you see its meaning. The stories that emerge are profound reflections of your inner state, and their value lies in what they help you understand about your life now, not in proving who you once were.
In other words, the value of a past life narrative is not in the story itself. It is in understanding why this particular story came up for you, at this particular moment.
Does QHHT® conflict with religious beliefs?
No. QHHT® does not ask you to adopt any doctrine or worldview, and nothing is suggested to you during a session. Dolores Cannon strictly prohibited practitioners from implanting ideas of any kind.
What surfaces comes from within you, and you are free to understand it in whatever framework is meaningful to you, whether that is religious, philosophical, psychological, or none at all. I work with clients from many faiths and backgrounds, in English, Mandarin and Cantonese, and the process is the same for all of them.
Can I change my life by changing what I tune into?
To a point, and this is where people sometimes misunderstand.
If your state shapes the "search results", it can be tempting to think you can create any reality you want. A more accurate picture is that of an outstanding student. Through intelligence and diligence, a student can earn a place at a top university. But once there, they still follow the curriculum: the core classes, the syllabus, the requirements. They cannot rewrite the institution's rules. Their power lies in how well they navigate and master what is in front of them.
Life works in a similar way. A clearer, higher state lets you move through your own curriculum with more wisdom, clarity and grace, and make the most aligned choices within it. That is what I mean by becoming the highest possible expression of yourself.
And that brings us back to the present. Whatever surfaces about the past, the power to act on it is always here, now.
So what is QHHT® really about?
QHHT® is about you, in this life. Past life narratives may be part of the journey, sometimes a striking one. But they are a doorway, not the destination.
If you come with curiosity about past lives, you are welcome. Just be open to discovering that the most important insight of the day may have nothing to do with who you were, and everything to do with who you are.
