What If I Can't Connect With My Subconscious During QHHT®?

Before a session, some people quietly wonder: "What if it doesn't work for me? What if I can't go deep enough?"

It is a natural worry. Here is what Lili Ou has learned about it.

How many people actually reach a deep trance in QHHT®?

Almost everyone. In her training for practitioners, Dolores Cannon shared that around 95% of QHHT® (Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique, by Dolores Cannon) clients reach a deep trance. In the practice of hypnosis, that is close to everyone.

In Lili Ou's own practice, she has never had a client who was completely unable to go in. The most extreme cases she has seen are clients who fell asleep, covered in What If I Fall Asleep During My QHHT® Session?, and a client who, with their eyes closed, saw the ceiling of the room.

That second example is worth pausing on. Seeing the room with your eyes closed is itself a sign of having gone in. Many people expect "going in" to mean seeing dramatic scenes they have never seen before. When that doesn't happen, they assume nothing happened. Often, something did.

Why do some people find it harder to let go?

In Lili Ou's experience, people who find it harder to connect have usually learned to protect themselves very well. Over years of life experience, they have developed a self-protection mechanism that works automatically, almost like a reflex.

There is nothing right or wrong about this. It is simply very dedicated. It works around the clock, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Think of how you sleep in a hotel compared with your own bed. Even in a comfortable room, many of us sleep a little lighter away from home. Part of us stays on guard. A deep self-protection mechanism works in a similar way, and setting it down takes time and a gentle, ongoing conversation with yourself.

Is the session wasted if I can't go deep?

No. A session like this is not wasted, because it shows you something valuable: the depth of your own protection mechanism, and the fear that sits behind it.

Seeing that clearly is the beginning of the work.

What can I do afterwards?

The answer is usually not another hypnosis session. It is to spend time with yourself:

  • Create quiet. Give yourself regular time without input, noise or distraction.

  • Spend time in your own company. Notice what you feel when there is nothing to do.

  • Write. Keep a journal, and write down what you truly think, not what you think you should think.

For clients in this situation, Lili Ou believes more of the work is theirs to do after the session. That is why she gives them tailor-made after-session self-help suggestions, designed around what their session revealed.

In short

  • Around 95% of QHHT® clients reach a deep trance, and in Lili Ou's practice no client has been completely unable to go in.

  • "Going in" does not always look like dramatic scenes.

  • A strong protection mechanism is not a flaw. It is a very dedicated guard.

  • The session still shows you something important, and the work continues through quiet, journaling and time with yourself.
