What If I Fall Asleep During My QHHT® Session?
Updated: Oct 7
It is one of the most common worries clients share before a session: "What if I fall asleep and miss everything?"
The honest answer may surprise you. Falling asleep during a QHHT® (Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique, by Dolores Cannon) session is not a failure. In Lili Ou's experience, it can be a very good sign.
Is it common to fall asleep during QHHT®?
Most clients stay aware throughout the session. QHHT® works with a deeply relaxed yet conscious state, and clients can usually speak, answer questions and remember what comes up.
But occasionally, a client drifts all the way into sleep. It happens more often than people expect, and it is nothing to be anxious about.
Why would someone fall asleep?
Falling asleep shows that the subconscious is deeply relaxed and has fully let go. The ego mind, the part of us that is always analysing, protecting and planning, has finally agreed to switch off and rest.
In Lili Ou's understanding, when a client falls asleep, it is because their subconscious has decided that this is what they need most right now. Not questions. Not words, explanations, new labels or new ways of thinking. Simply quiet: a chance to close the busy mind, stop, and recharge.
This is an important principle of QHHT®. The session is led by the client's subconscious, not by the practitioner. The practitioner is only the facilitator. The subconscious knows what will help the client most, and sometimes the answer is rest.
What does the practitioner do if you fall asleep?
When Lili Ou first began practising, she wasn't sure how to work with a client who fell asleep. With experience, she now knows how to handle it.
She generally doesn't wake the client. First, she makes sure they have truly fallen asleep and that their state has fully shifted. If so, she continues with Dolores Cannon's Silver Crystalline Meditation, within the setting of the session. This becomes part of the client's session recording.
That recording is something the client can keep listening to after the session. It continues to support them, and many clients find new insights arriving through it in the weeks that follow.
Is the session wasted if I sleep?
No. The session has given you what your subconscious chose: deep rest, and a recording made for you in that state.
For clients who fall asleep, what matters most afterwards is quite simple:
Trust. Trust that what happened was right for you, even if it wasn't what you expected.
Speak less outwardly, look inward more. Give yourself quiet time instead of explaining the experience to others.
Spend time with yourself. Listen to your recording, and allow a gentle inner dialogue to unfold.
The insight may not come in words on the day. It often comes later, when you are rested enough to receive it.
How can I prepare?
A good night's sleep before your session helps. Hypnosis is a focused state, and a rested mind follows the guidance more easily. Lili Ou's guide to preparing for a QHHT® session covers this in more detail.
But if you do fall asleep, let go of the worry. Your subconscious knows what it is doing.
